Nine-year-old Jessica Marie Lunsford has been missing from her home and family in Homosassa, Fla., for four days. Her bewildered and fearful family members have appeared repeatedly on TV, calling for the girl’s safe return.
Law enforcement acted immediately upon being notified Jessica was missing, but they say they have almost nothing to go on. As of this evening, volunteers searching in and around her community had turned up no leads.
Today, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters offered a $25,000 reward to any private citizen who provides authorities with information leading to Jessica’s safe return.
In a news release, Teamsters President Jim Hoffa said: “We were saddened to hear of Jessica Marie Lunsford’s disappearance. Our hearts go out to Mark Lunsford and his family. Our entire union is prepared to offer whatever support we can to help bring Jessica Marie home safely.” The head of the Tampa local echoed Hoffa’s pledge.
This is a case of union members looking out for one of their own. Jessica’s grandfather is a longtime Teamster. It’s a side of unions we hear too little about, although such help is not uncommon.
Something all of us can do: For Jessica and her family, for all missing children and their loved ones, let’s say a prayer, or at least keep a good thought. Let’s pray the authorities’ efforts will be guided to swift and safe returns. Let’s pray for strength and comfort to get through a horrible ordeal for all the distraught family members and friends of those who are just gone.

I do hope and pray Jessica comes home safe and sound. How can anyone be so sick or evil that they would take a little child?
