Somehow, with his fight on, with all his serious talk about serious initiatives and reforms, young, handsome and personable John Edwards seemed kind of stale and boring. Seemed kind of like the intelligent, friendly guy who tries to hold a meaningful conversation at a New Year’s Eve party.

In the Republican presidential race, front runner Sen. John McCain received some good news and some bad news today.

First, the good news (emphasis ours). “SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — Mitt Romney said Wednesday that John McCain is out of the conservative mainstream . . .”

If you wonder why our posting has been less frequent lately, blame it mostly on winter, on coping with all the snow. It’s not just that, though. Everything but slipping and falling is more difficult and takes more time in winter. . .

Sen. Barack Obama scored an impressive victory in the South Carolina primary yesterday, with 55 percent of the vote giving him 25 delegates to second-place Sen. Hillary Clinton’s 27 percent and 12 delegates.

An incompetent knowitall and sleazeball who blew his job World Bank president because he set his main squeeze up with a cushy, high-salary position, Wolfowitz doesn’t deserve a job cleaning Pentagon latrines on the graveyard shift.

Although Giuliani has a clear edge in citing “9-11, 9-11, 9-11″ in his stump speeches, throwing in a few “I’ll cut your taxes” pledges for a clincher, Floridians apparently realize he has little more to offer.

We won’t be surprised if Giuliani heads for the exit once the Florida primary is over and before he wastes more time and money.

If there were any doubts about ambition, energy, passion and dedication being basic requirements for presidential candidates, Thompson’s reticent, lethargic and halfhearted stab at it should remove them for all time.

This always happens, not infrequently backfiring on the candidates who indulge with the greatest gusto. It’s exactly what went on between then-front runner Howard Dean and Dick Gephardt in Iowa four years ago.

The MSM-designated nonentity is John Edwards, whose only hopes for getting even a reasonable amount of media attention lie in staging come-from-behind victories in South Carolina, Florida and most of the Super Tuesday primaries, or getting caught having an affair with an underage campaign worker. . .
