Anything to win bites VP wannabes
There might be such a thing as honor among thieves, but among Republican politicians not so much. Just ask those on Sen. John McCain’s short list of vice presidential possibilities.
McCain V.P. choice, ahem, figures
Reaching into the worst hotbed of Republican corruption west of Washington, D.C., GOP presidential nominee-apparent Sen. John McCain today named Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate. Palin, whose tissue-thin resumé includes having been mayor of a small town and governor for less than two years, was a stunning choice for the candidate who spent weeks charging his Democratic opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, lacks qualifications to be president and commander in chief.
What will outlive Bushwhacking? Privatization
With the Democrats’ convention going on, displacing virtually all other news, it’s probably too much to expect you to read an excellent post about the spreading plague known as privatization. OK, we understand. But please pull the link down onto your desktop or save a bookmark to that post so you can read it when you do have a few minutes. . .
Cheney aide’s Georgia visit innocent? Ha!
Do you wonder if maybe the Bush White House hoped to instigate a little “You better be scared” August surprise, the better to distract from the Democrats’ convention and maybe bolster warhawk John McCain’s presidential aspirations? Whole lot of framin’ going on
The Democrats’ national convention hasn’t gotten under way yet, but CNN has spent the weekend framing the event in terms of a potentially fatal split: Clinton supporters — said to be 30 percent of likely Democratic voters — are apparently willing to become spoilers who will vote for Sen. John McCain rather than support a ticket without the New York senator on it. . .
Biden’s the one
We heartily endorse Obama’s selection of Biden. We expect he will be an extremely strong and hard-working campaigner, and a formidable debater. Most important, Biden should be an excellent complement to Obama if the two win in November, and would be a fine president if he should ever have to succeed to the highest office in the land.
X-number of homes are McCain’s castles
Sen. John McCain has so many expensive homes he can’t keep track — something that could happen to any millionaire married to a woman whose family is said to be worth $100 million, give or take. . .
