With a cranky, sold-out septuagenarian and his flaky female sidekick to peddle, the McCain campaign has settled on a strategy of flooding the airwaves with falsehoods.
Face it, as McCain’s handlers obviously have, honesty and openness will never win the White House for these Republican lamers.
If Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin can keep cranking out lies at the current rate, they will easily break the Bush-Cheney ’04 campaign’s record for wholesale, deliberate dishonesty — a remarkable feat.
FactCheck.org doesn’t appreciate being drafted into McCain and Palin’s effort. Via Newsweek:
McCain-Palin Distorts Our Finding
Summary
A McCain-Palin ad has FactCheck.org calling Obama’s attacks on Palin “absolutely false” and “misleading.” That’s what we said, but it wasn’t about Obama. Our article criticized anonymous e-mail falsehoods and bogus claims about Palin posted around the Internet. We have no evidence that any of the claims we found to be false came from the Obama campaign.
The McCain-Palin ad also twists a quote from a Wall Street Journal columnist. He said the Obama camp had sent a team to Alaska to “dig into her record and background.” The ad quotes the WSJ as saying the team was sent to “dig dirt.”
Update, Sept. 10: Furthermore, the Obama campaign insists that no researchers have been sent to Alaska and that the Journal owes them a correction.”
That’s just the summary. Read the whole thing for a better appreciation of what lying sacks of you-know-what Sens. Barack Obama, Joe Biden and the sane, decent rest of us are up against.

The mavericks’ are just conducting the third term Bush/Rove campaign, aren’t they. Anything but the issues. They know they lose on the issues.
Maybe the lies will backfire this time.
I pray so.
We’ve seen this movie before. I hope voters realize that McCain’s whining and phony outrage are ultimately not presidential. I think it’s childish, petty, and not evocative of inspiring a new generation of leadership.
unfortunately, McCain’s campaign manager is right, this election is not going to be about the issues. as long as people have “bread and circuses” , very little will change in this country.
AP, what McCain is angling for isn’t a new generation of leadership, but rather perpetuating an old age of misleadership.
TA, circuses maybe. But have you priced a loaf of bread lately?
sw,
fewer and fewer people cook anymore. bread in this case means the fast food dollar menu (open 24/7).
Ha ha. Its funny that you want to make the election about lies, with Joe Biden and a Chicago pol running on your side.
McCain is claiming that if Obama had agreed to those townhall meetings, McCain wouldn’t have to stoop to this level, so it’s Obama’s fault.
I do think Obama should have agreed to those townhall debates; I don’t know what his reasoning was. But that has nothing to do with why McCain is reaching into the gutter. Nothing else was working; bring on the swiftboaters.
TH, McCain likes those town hall meetings because he’s lousy at speechmaking, he can slip in lies and distortions with less likelihood of them being reported afterward, plus it’s so easy to plant questioners and questions in them.
Obama was wise to pass on McCain’s town hall idea. The two will debate in due time.
>>>>…he’s lousy at speechmaking
Unfair. He’s just not really good.
>>>>…he can slip in lies and distortions with less likelihood of them being reported afterward.
That is what is so unfair. Republicans have to slip theirs in. Democrats can state their lies and distortions up front.
