Maybe it’s a birds of a feather thing. Neither Palin nor Steele have distinguished themselves as campaigners, officeholders or party spokespersons. However, when it comes to not knowing what they’re talking about, shooting from the lip and living large as long as others are picking up the tab, Palin and Steele have plenty in common.

Maybe someone put Bunning up to it
The media are reporting Bunning’s outrageous stunt as his doing alone, and given what a thoroughly nasty piece of work he is, that could very well be the case. But having watched Senate Republicans oppose unemployment compensation extensions in the past, an alternative possibility came to our mind, inspired in part by a remark Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., made on the Senate floor today.
She’s a pistol, he’s an arsenal and they
are a few rounds short of a full clip
Sarah Palin excels in getting media attention, but it looks as though the more people see of her and hear from her, the less well this half-term ex-governor of Alaska wears on them — Republicans included. A Washington Post-ABC News poll reported this week that 71 percent of Americans overall, and 52 percent of Republicans, [...]
Will Tennessee tea partiers buy in
or bag Palin-headlined event?
Looks as though the Republican right’s rendition of America’s sweetheart doesn’t make tea partiers’ hearts go pitty-pat all that much, judging by Sarah Palin’s lack of drawing power for a pricey dinner do in Nashville. Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips likely assumed that scoring a dinner speech by the former Alaska governor and GOP [...]
‘Dr.’ Rhodes diagnoses what ails Republicans
“They’ve got a thing about pre-existing conditions. I think they have a pre-existing condition — that’s why they’re Republicans! —Randi Rhodes, syndicated progressive talk-show host, WZAA-AM, Washington, D.C., while discussing progress of health care reform legislation, Nov. 9, 2009 Indeed, Republicans regularly demonstrate they have a host of “pre-existing conditions.” Callous disregard for facts and [...]
‘Socialist mop?’ Obama pushes back
“We don’t want somebody sitting back and saying ‘you’re not holding the mop the right way, you’re not mopping fast enough, that’s a socialist mop.’” —President Barack Obama, during a speaking engagement in San Francisco, after saying Congress is working to clean up a mess others left behind, Oct. 15, 2009 Let ‘em have it: [...]
Franken might be near end of ordeal
By dragging out his bid to reverse the decision of a clear majority of Minnesota voters for seven long months, losing every step of the way, Coleman has surely undermined, and perhaps ruined, any future he might’ve had in politics.
Petraeus refutes Cheney, GOP hysterics
Our top commander of Mideast combat forces didn’t mention Republicans running around with their tongues on fire, but anyone who’s listened to their efforts to promote NIMBY hysteria couldn’t help but appreciate the contrast.
Cheney, Limbaugh fitting leaders for GOP
Former Vice President Dick Cheney is confident the attitudes, tactics and policies that brought the country two quagmire wars, an economic meltdown, a tarnished reputation in the world and multiple scandals are still right for the country. Cheney insists the radical conservative Republican approach to ruling America that created that abysmal track record is still [...]
If pandemic hits, thank GOP
for our lack of preparedness
John Nichols, writing in The Nation blog, The Beat, does an exceptional job of telling how Republican demagoging for political advantage, coupled with Senate Democrats’ willingness to knuckle under, sucked funding for combating a viral pandemic out of the stimulus bill early this year. Here’s how the post kicks off, but you really should read [...]
